JCC announces performing arts concert series SMITHFIELD -- Johnston Community College has announced its 2008-09 Performing Arts Concert Series. Family Series Season tickets are $25 "Junie B. Jones": Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12.50 at the door. Outspoken, precocious, lovable Junie B. Jones stars in a colorful, funny, fast-paced musical about new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament, and other various first-grade angst-ridden situations. Follow her adventures as she writes down the story of her life in her "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal." This new musical is based on four volumes in Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones series of books, illustrated by Denise Brunkus and published by Random House. "The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe": Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10, $12.50 a the door. The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe is Theatreworks USA's long-running musical based on the C.S. Lewis novel. This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. This 60-minute musical is recommended for audiences age 6 and up. "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day": Sunday April 5 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12.50 at the door. Have you ever had a really rotten day? Alexander has... He wakes up with gum in his hair, he trips on a skateboard, and then he accidentally dries his wet face with his good sweater -- all before breakfast! Alexander can already tell -- it's going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! This 60-minute musical, featuring five actors, is appropriate for ages 4 and up. Signature Artists Series Season tickets are $52.50 Anthony Kearns. Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22.50 at the door. Anthony Kearns, the world-renowned Irish tenor, is most notably known as a member of the highly successful trio: The Irish Tenors. With the trio, Kearns has several CDs to his credit having sold millions of copies worldwide. Kearns' solo concerts are always highly successful and eagerly awaited. Best of Broadway --The Songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber: Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 at the door. Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the world's most successful and prolific usical theater composers. The show begins with a driving, exciting rendition of "Sunset Boulevard" and takes you on an unforgettable musical journey through Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest hits. Revisit the powerful rock musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar," the thrilling strains of "Evita," the playfulness of "Cats" and the heart-pounding rhythms of "Starlight Express." Violin Venus -- Jane Hunt: Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $17.50 at the door. The Violin Venus show is an exciting mixture of Celtic and Classical Crossover. At only 23 years of age, Jane Hunt has combined her classical violin training with her love for Celtic music to create a shimmering tribute to both. Along with a band that includes the highly acclaimed Irish musicians James Riley and Isaac Alderson, both of whom are regular members of the Eileen Ivers Band, the show has a vibrant energy that can leave audiences spellbound. Country & Bluegrass Series Season tickets are $62.50 The Hunt Family Fiddlers: Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17.50 in advance and $20 at the door. The Hunt Family Fiddlers are an award winning family of Irish step dancers, fiddlers and singers that marvel crowds everywhere. This family of nine performs Celtic, bluegrass, inspirational and popular tunes, offering a unique blend of diversity to every show. Audiences love to experience their high-powered step dancing, fast fiddling and vocal talents, as well as their other instrumental talents including drums, accordion, keyboard and guitar. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver: Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 at the door. Lawson's perseverance and hard work style has shown through more than 40 albums since 1977 and through his band's schedule, which includes more than 60 concerts in one year. The Gatlin Brothers: April 18. 3 p.m. performance tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 at the door. 7 p.m. with tickets are $27.50 in advance and $30 at the door. Over the course of a four-decade career that has taken the Gatlin Brothers from dusty Texas stages to White House performances, from Broadway to Grammy Awards to the top of the country charts, there has been one unifying element, music. Nostalgia Series Season tickets $65. 1964 -- the Tribute: Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $27.50 at the door. 1964 -- the Tribute is a Beatles' tribute band that was formed in 1982. They have performed over 2,900 shows, released albums and released videos. Rolling Stone magazine has called 1964, "The best Beatles tribute ever." They were also featured in a PBS special of the same name. Their tourschedule has taken them worldwide at such venues as concert halls, fairs, festivals, colleges, corporate events and conventions. "The Wonder Bread Years": Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22.50 at the door. A salute to the Baby Boomer Generation, "The Wonder Bread Years" is a fast-paced, hilarious production that gracefully walks the line between stand-up and theater. Audiences across the country are enjoying a show that not only restores a much-needed sense of wonder, but leaves audiences laughing and savoring the past like never before. Cornell Gunter's Coasters, The Marvelettes, & The Platters: March 21 at 7 p.m. with tickets $25 in advance and $27.50 at the door. 3 p.m. tickets are $20 in advance and $22.50 at the door. The Platters, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are one of the top 25 best-selling artists of all time and have had 14 top 20 hits, including "The Great Pretender," "Only You" and "Twilight Time." Cornell Gunter's Coasters, who were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are known for such hits as "Poison Ivy," "Charlie Brown" and "Yakety Yak." The Marvelettes were Motown's first group to have a No. 1 song on Billboard with the hit "Please Mr. Postman." Special Presentation Johnston County Chorale Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. The Johnston County Chorale will present its annual Christmas Holiday Festival.
