Elizabeth Ericka Hooks and Joshua James Simmons of Wilson were married Sept. 26 at St. Therese Catholic Church. Father Tim Meares officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony.

Betty Hooks of Wilson is the bride's mother. She is the granddaughter of Nona Hooks of Fremont and the late Wayne Hooks and Helen Spengler of Langford, N.Y., and the late John Spengler. She graduated from Hunt High School and East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She is employed by Diversified Opportunities as a program coordinator.

Bruce and Darlene Truesdale of Bessemer City and Jim and LuAnn Simmons of Belmont are the bridegroom's parents. He is the grandson of Bob and Betty Simmons of Denver, N.C.; Bill and Sue Heyworth of Kannapolis; and Zelma Heyworth of Cherryville. He graduated from North Gaston High School and East Carolina University with bachelor's and master's degrees in exercise and sports science. He is assistant baseball coach and athletic complex supervisor of Barton College.

The bride was escorted by her uncle, Gene Spengler.

Stacey Radford of Wilson was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Christen Winstead of Greenville and Shelby Sigmon of Mount Holly, cousin of the groom.

Sophia Guerra of Spring Hope was flower girl.

Best man was Justin Willoughby of Princeton.

Groomsmen were Matt McCay of Chapel Hill and Jason Howell of Wilmington.

Zak Spaur of Bessemer City, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.

A reception at Hampton Inn followed the ceremony. The bride's mother and the wedding couple were hosts.

On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was given at The Rib Hut by Bruce and Darlene Truesdale.

Following a wedding trip to the Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Wilson.
