Darden student attends leadership programs By Stephanie Creech | Daily Times Senior Writer Rayven Anderson has been selected to attend several youth development programs. She was selected to attend the Legislators’ School for Youth Leadership Development at East Carolina University in Greenville this summer, and this fall, Rayven will attend the People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. Rayven, 12, is an eighth-grader at Darden Middle School. The Legislators’ School for Youth Leadership Development was held this week. The program is funded by the North Carolina General Assembly. During the program, Rayven attended classes and participated in activities designed to enhance leadership skills, all within an experience-based framework developed around the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” by Stephen Covey and the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey. Rayven also completed an outdoor challenge program and participated in a community service project. The People to People World Leadership Forum will be held the week of Sept. 15. Rayven will participate in discussions and activities designed to build knowledge, communication skills and leadership abilities. She will also have the chance to see many of the historic sights of Washington, D.C. Students from around the world will participate in the event. In both instances, Rayven was nominated by school leaders to participate in the programs.
