Saturday's Obituaries Stephen Timothy Letchworth Stephen Timothy Letchworth, age 55, of 200 Allen Drive, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, due to injuries from an accident. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at Stantonsburg Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Andrews and the Rev. Danny Johnson will officiate. Steve was past employed with Smith Hardware in Goldsboro for 29 years until its closure and was currently employed with Wayne County ABC. Mr. Letchworth is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Letchworth; his mother, Dorothy Folston Letchworth of Stantonsburg, his sister-in-law, Frieda Massey of Ayden; two nieces, Jennifer Cuthrell and her husband Billy of Raleigh and Tamara Outlaw of Youngsville; one great-niece, Emma Cuthrell of Raleigh; his Uncle Marvin (Bushe) and Aunt Edith Folston of Stantonsburg, several special uncles and aunts from the Letchworth family and several special in-laws in the Outlaw family. Mr. Letchworth was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Letchworth and one brother, Tommy Massey. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence. Floyd Willis Strickland October 23, 1932 – June 27, 2008 Floyd Willis Strickland, 75, of Middlesex, died Friday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Middlesex Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Middlesex. The Rev. Steve McCart and the Rev. Ricky Anderson will officiate. Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Catherine Brown Strickland; a daughter, Janet S. Amerson and husband Roger; a granddaughter, Tiffany Amerson; two grandsons, Blake Amerson and Jeffrey Amerson, all of Wilson; a sister, Gertrude Saunders of Middlesex; a brother, John Strickland and wife Mary of Middlesex; in-laws, Margaret and Ray Allen of Wilson, Betsy and Wallace Brown of Roanoke Rapids, Shirley and Elmer Hopkins, Christine and Hoyt Brown, Barbara and Kenneth Narron, all of Middlesex, Almeta and Johnny Allen of Lillington, and Judy Brown of Middlesex; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ozzie Strickland. Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net. Eunice “Monk” Nichols KENLY — Eunice “Monk” Hales Nichols, 81, died Friday. The service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Minshew-Coley Funeral Home. Walton R. Thompson RALEIGH - Walton R. Thompson, 86, of Abbottswood Retirement Community, died June 26, 2008. He was a native of Wilson County and preceded in death by a daughter, Kent T. Baumann; parents, James H. and Sallie Bass Thompson; sister, Faye Williams; brother, Joe Thompson; half-sisters, Grace Raper, Ruby Proctor and Pattie Morgan; half-brother, Clement Lucas. Walton graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in horticulture and floriculture. Upon graduation, he taught one year there. During World War II, he rose to the rank of captain in the Army while serving in the 100th Infantry Division, 398th Regiment, and was awarded the Silver Star. He retired in 1990 as executive vice-president of Creative Marketing Concepts having been a co-founder and part owner. While in the Asian headquarters of Concept in Hong Kong, he was known as the ‘father of silk flowers’ which was the beginning of a new concept. Inez S. Owens Walston Aug. 30, 1923 — June 26, 2008 ELM CITY — Inez Sullivan Owens Walston, age 84, died Thursday, June 26, 2008, in Nash General Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday evening, June 28, 2008, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home with the Rev. George Moore officiating. Committal services will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Peoples Chapel Church Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her son: Vernon Owens Jr. She is survived by three daughters: Geraldine Owens Price and husband Tom of Elm City, Frances Owens Griffin and husband Linwood of Elm City, and Rachel Mae Owens Taylor and husband Will of Bailey; six grandchildren: Charlie Narron, Braxton Price, Kim Strickland, Paula Davis, Ronnie Owens and Stacey Jones; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Frances and Linwood Griffin, 4019 Temperan Thomas Willis Smith Nov. 27, 1949 - June 11, 2008 ROCKY MOUNT – Thomas Willis Smith, 58, passed away June 11, 2008. He was born in Edgecombe County on November 27, 1949, to the late William J. and Emma Hendricks Smith. Among his many accomplishments, Thomas spent 15 years teaching and certifying instructors with The American Red Cross. He later became a dealer and appraiser of antiques. Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 25 years, Marsha Barnes Smith of the home; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Amos Harris Sr. Mr. Amos Harris Sr., age 68, of 1902 Elton Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C. Service for Amos Harris Sr. will be held Monday 11 a.m. at the Elm Grove Church of Christ in Pikeville, N.C. Interment will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park North, Goldsboro, N.C. Joyful memories of Amos are cherished by his wife, Carol Artis Harris of the home; four sons, Larry, Ivory, Amos Jr., all of Goldsboro, and Tony Harris of Virginia; three sisters, Magalene Woodard, Bettie Pitt and Connie Barron, all of Wilson; and two brothers, James Harris of Goldsboro and Ronnie Lewis of Wilson.
