Economic stimulus goes to other countries In regards to Hal Tarleton's column on June 21, I must say that his comments relative to "stimulating the economy" were right on track. Kudos to Hal. The economies which will get stimulated will be those countries whose labels we find attached to most every item that we purchase -- China and India primarily. How long has it been since you saw a label on a shirt, blouse, shoes, etc., which told you that it was made in the USA? I think you will have to search for quite a while. I was somewhat surprised recently when I saw a "made in USA" label inside a suit of mine, but I've had it for ages. Our TVs, music players, phones -- and I could go on and on. The last tube of toothpaste I purchased was made in India. I'm rather picky about what goes in my mouth. Our industries are closing and those that survive have laid off great numbers of employees. Wonder when our postage stamps will be printed overseas? Wonder when we will close down our mints and have our money printed in another country? Don't laugh -- and don't let Congress get a whiff of it They might think it's a fabulous idea. Thanks to Hal for participating in our Memorial Day service in front of the Courthouse on May 26. His introduction of our speaker, Tom Sallenger, was marvelous. A bit of humor plus the details of some of Tom's experiences which were similar in some respects to his own. Let's continue to pray for our troops (guys and girls) who are in harm's way. It's the least we can do. Lannis B. Watson Ridge Road
