"Sen. Dole's service to the State of North Carolina has been invaluable," said Buck Newton, Chairman of the Wilson County Republican Party. "We are very lucky to have her in the U.S. Senate."
Dole, speaking before a crowd of 60 supporters, highlighted her accomplishments during two terms in the Senate. "One of the things I'm most proud of is the passage of the tobacco quota buyout," Dole said in her remarks. She said the buyout helped eastern North Carolina farmers get out from under a government system that told them how much they could grow and at what price.
She also detailed her efforts to protect North Carolina military bases from closure and giving North Carolina sheriffs the option to take steps to deport criminal aliens kept in their jails.
County Commissioner Tim Williford, brother of Chris Williford, introduced Dole.
"I don't have to tell you all how important this election is," Williford said. "From drilling for our own oil to fighting for laws to protect the country from terror, Sen. Dole has been the kind of leader we need to keep in Washington."
