Hitt-Heacox

WILMINGTON -- Susan Ashley Heacox and John David Hitt, both of Wilmington, were united in marriage Saturday at The Balcony on Dock Street in historic downtown Wilmington. The Rev. Penelope Morningstar officiated at the 5 p.m. ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wesley Heacox of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C. Wilson of Wilson and Peggie Heacox of Wilmington and the late Donald W. Heacox. She graduated from Hunt High School and received a bachelor's degree in English with a teaching certification from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she was a member of Alpha Pi Sorority. She is an English teacher at E.A. Laney High School.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Lee Hitt of Hoschton, Ga. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Wheeler of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Joann Pirie of Marietta, S.C. He graduated from Duluth High School and received a bachelor's degree in communications with a certification in professional writing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he was a member of the swim team. He is the promotions director for Encore Magazine.

Escorted by her father, the bride chose for her wedding a formal gown featuring a strapless fitted Chantilly lace bodice with a satin band neckline and a full ball gown skirt in dupioni silk fashioned with a tuxedo pleated chapel train.

For her veil, she chose a bandeau headpiece of seed pearls with layers of pencil-edged illusion that flowed to waist length.

She carried a hand-tied bouquet with a mixed array of white roses, gardenias, white spray roses, stephanotis, white hydrangeas and hints of greenery.

Matron of honor was Spencer Heacox Melton of Charlotte and Scottsdale, Ariz., sister of the bride. She wore a knee-length strapless dress of tiered silk organza in willow green.

The groom's father and Herman Cross Miller of Duluth, Ga., were best men.

Joseph Wheeler Hitt, Daniel Robert Hitt and Michael Gregory Hitt, all brothers of the groom from Duluth, served as groomsmen.

Register attendant was Melissa Ashley Orr.

Angela Marie Sherrill and Kelly Ward Dooley were program attendants.

Reader was Shannon Christine Wilson of Morehead City, aunt of the bride.

Jill White directed the wedding.

Music for the ceremony was provided by violinist Maura Kropke.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Balcony on Dock Street. Hosts were parents of the bride.

On the eve of the ceremony, the groom's parents gave a rehearsal dinner at Reel Cafe in downtown Wilmington.

Following their return from a honeymoon in the mountains of North Carolina, the couple will reside in Wilmington.

* April 26 -- An around the clock shower was held at Chelsea's Wine Bar. Host was the matron of honor.

* May 31 -- Laney's English department hosted a bridal shower.

* June 14 -- A bachelorette party was given by Melissa Orr and Jamie Green.
