And Liles is literally running wild at County Line Raceway in 2008.
He has dominated the Thunder & Lightning division and has established himself as a contender in Late Model, the fastest division.
Saturday night's program was exemplary of Liles' prowess. He took the checkered flag in another Thunder & Lightning feature and raced to a runner-up finish in Late Model.
Late Model winner Damon Kotke denied Liles twin trips to Victory Lane.
Also victorious were Victor May in Super Stock Four-Cylinder, Jerry Williams in Pure Stock V-8, Michael Webb in Pure Stock Four-Cylinder and Austin Holcombe in Cadet (ages 11-15).
Seven of the evening's 29 cautions in 16 laps did not faze Liles in the Thunder & Lightning event. And another win provided him an opportunity to thank his sponsors -- Battleboro Produce, Creekside Lawn Maintenance, Robert Corbett and Chris Prince.
Wade Ferrell of Rocky Mount earnestly challenged Liles but settled for a runner-up finish.
The "driver on the move" was Skeeter Liles, Britches Liles' son, who charged from the rear of the field after an early spin to take third. Mark McDaniels of Selma finished fourth, with J.P. Cascell of Rocky Mount fifth.
In Late Model, Louisburg's Kotke claimed the pole with a time of 15.885 seconds for a circuit of the 3âÑ8-mile clay oval. Kotke led all 30 laps to become the first Late Model repeat winner in 2008.
Kotke was chased by the racer of Ronnie Boykin until lap 19. That's when Liles worked his ride inside Boykin's car and slid into second place.
Liles charged from a sixth-place start to second, while James Batten of Rocky Mount claimed third. Wilson's Boykin recovered from a late-race spin to salvage fourth. Larry Dunn of Newsome, Va., finished fifth.
The sixth caution on lap 21 resulted in the racers of Spencer Liggon and Chris Klein suffering considerable damage.
Snow Hill's Williams, in Pure Stock V-8, didn't finalize his third 2008 victory until his car survived a protest filed by second-place finisher Gary Whitley of Stantonsburg.
In the event of a protest, track rules require that both cars be inspected. Following "cool-down" time and a meticulous inspection, Williams was declared the official race winner. Whitley kept second.
After his car spun on lap four and was forced to come from the rear of the pack, Ben James of Battleboro registered a third-place finish. David Beaman of Bailey and Ray Beaman of Lucama rounded out the top five, respectively.
Jimmy Holcombe started from the Pure Stock Four-Cylinder pole after winning his heat race. However, Holcombe's racer was overtaken by the ride of Michael Webb on lap five.
Webb maintained the point and celebrated his first triumph of 2008. Holcombe challenged until lap nine, when his car spun. Brandon Whitley of Elm City then became the lead hunter of Webb.
However, Whitley settled for second, with Taylor Dalton of Elm City third and Joey Morgan of Louisburg fourth. Holcombe rallied from his car's spin to salvage fifth.
In a 14-car Super Stock Four-Cylinder field, Zebulon's May started from the pole and stayed out front in zooming to his seventh checkered flag this season.
In Cadet, Elm City's Austin Holcombe described his third win as the best birthday present he could get. He turns 13 on Wednesday.
No racing is scheduled at County Line on Saturday evening in observance of the July 4 holidays. Competition resumes on Saturday, July 12, with drivers racing for double points in all features -- Late Model, Pure Stock Four-Cylinder, Super Stock Four-Cylinder, Pure Stock V-8, Thunder & Lightning and Cadets.
