WCYAA seeks workers for regional tournament

The Wilson County Youth Athletic Association is seeking workers, ages 15 and up and preferably with driver's license, to help work at the 2008 Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Softball Tournament.

Workers are needed to work concessions, prepare ballfields, serve as announcers, scorekeepers (must have prior experience) and operate golf carts to transport supplies and handicapped fans. These will be paid positions.

The tournament will be played July 16-20 at the Toisnot Park fields. Games will start at 9 a.m. each day and continue through 10 p.m.

A mandatory meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at the WCYAA offices in Lucama at 101 North Main Street at 7 p.m. All interested parties must attend the meeting in order to be considered.

Cheerleaders hold fundraisers

The Wilson Cheetahs Cheerleaders, a group of girls from the Wilson area between the ages of 7 and 14, are asking the community for financial help to aid the team in attending a national cheerleading competition.

The squad is holding a fundraiser at Pizza Inn on Ward Boulevard on Thursday, July 10, from 5-8 p.m.

On Saturday, July 12, the Cheetahs are having a huge yard sale, featuring plates of barbecued chicken for sale, in front of Quality Finance at 1701 Goldsboro Street at the intersection of Ward Boulevard.

The group is a part of Young Champions, a nonprofit organization that supports confidence-building and self-esteem in young people.

The national competition will be held in Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo., on July 26.

Eastern N.C. Fall Baseball meeting planned

For all teams interested in plaingy Eastern N.C. Fall Baseball this season, there will be a fall baseball meeting at 6:30 p.m. on July 31 at 6:30pm at Eastern Carolina Athletic Park in Goldsboro in the first-floor meeting room. The deadline to enter is Aug. 15 and the season will start Aug. 29. I
