By a nearly 3-1 margin, Wilson County voters overwhelmingly rejected a quarter-cent sales tax increase that would have provided county commissioners with an extra $2.1 million in revenue.
With all of the county's precincts reporting, 12,341 people voted against the sales tax increase, while only 4,555 people voted for it.
Wilson County voters joined those in Nash and Wayne counties in defeating the sales tax referendums.
