Wilson 8-U Little Leaguers turned back by North Durham 14-5 in District 6 final

The Wilson City Little League's 8-under baseball team's bid to reach the North Carolina Little League Tournament was denied by North Durham 14-5 in Wednesday night's District 6 final at Toisnot Midget Field.

Wilson was victimized by seven errors in its attempt to overtake a North Durham squad which had allowed just one run in five previous games.

Jaelynn Melton again led Wilson at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing that included a triple. Also banging out two hits were Kennedy Hearndon, who doubled, along with Austin Worley and Christian Wilson. Worley drove in run.

It was the second straight District 6 8-under crown for North Durham while Wilson was making its first appearance in a District 6 final at any age group.

Three more Wilson City Little League teams will have chances to match the 8-under squad's feat this weekend in district tournament play.

The 10-under District 6 tournament begins Saturday in Clayton while the 12-under team begins District 6 tournament play Saturday in Wilmington.

The 11-under District 6 tourney gets underway Monday at Toisnot.
