Wilson 8U Little Leaguers reach District 6 final


History was made Tuesday night at Toisnot Midget Field as Wilson City Little League advanced a team to the North Carolina Little League District 6 championship for the first time.

In the District 6 semifinals, the Wilson ages 8-under team outlasted South Durham 25-24 in eight innings and will face North Durham in tonight's final at 7 at Toisnot. North Durham defeated Clayton 10-0 in the other semifinal.

Wilson led 15-9 in the top of the sixth but South Durham rallied to tie the score then added six more in the seventh before it was Wilson's turn to rally. After South Durham posted three runs in the top of the eighth, Wilson answered with four as Austin Worley capped a 4-for-4 night by knocking in the winning run.

Jaelynn Melton led Wilson as the plate by going 4 for 6 with two doubles and a triple and five RBIs. Aaron Boswell had four hits for Wilson while Hunter Stokely, Ty Galloway, Zach Pittman and Garrett Browder each had three hits.

The 10-under District 6 tournament begins Saturday in Clayton while the 12-under team begins District 6 tournament play Saturday in Wilmington.

The 11-under District 6 tourney gets underway Monday at Toisnot.
